Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist

Dr Hothi is a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist and clinical lead for Home Haemodialysis (HD).

HD has been her passion and interest for many years. She completed her MD in Paediatric HD split between two sites, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, and Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Dr Hothi secured funding for a four-year Home HD pilot at GOSH but was successful in achieving substantive status at the end of year two. As a team, they have trained and recruited 16 patients to date, the largest paediatric cohort internationally. Her ambition now is to develop a National Paediatric Home Haemodialysis Network.

Dr Hothi is the Divisional Clinical Improvement and Patient Safety Officer for Medicine, Diagnostics and Therapeutics. She has led on a number projects including the ‘Shine project; active reporting of patient safety incidents and near misses on the renal ward by involving families and patients.’ This project won the Health Service Journal (HSJ) National Wards 2013 in Patient Safety and was shortlisted for the BMJ Awards 2014 – Innovation Team. She is also a lead for the EQuIP (Enabling Clinicians in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety) training programme which has been nominated for the HSJ Education Award 2014.

Finally, Dr Hothi is involved in a number of national quality initiatives such as the Expert Working Group for the Paediatric and Renal Healthcare Resource Group chapters, the Clinical Services Chair for the British Association of Paediatric Nephrologists and a member of the NICE Quality Standard Advisory Committee for Renal Replacement Therapy.
