Overview

Dr. Penny Andreou is a Specialist Clinical Psychologist with extensive experience of working with children, young people, parents and families. She has expertise in child development, complex neurodevelopmental difficulties, long-term health conditions with associated emotional and behavioural difficulties and, cognitive/educational/neuropsychology assessments. She has a caring and warm approach and is passionate about supporting children and their families cope with their challenges.

Since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist at the Institute of Psychiatry in 2009, Penny has worked across a range of NHS services including: a community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service; Great Ormond Street Hospital’s specialist, second opinion, multi-disciplinary Neurodevelopmental Assessment service (assessments of complex Intellectual disabilities, ADHD, autism); the Social Communication and Autism Spectrum Service, a leading national centre for high functioning Autism and, is the lead psychologist for the Paediatric Metabolic Psychology service, which provides cognitive assessments and, psychological and behavioural support for children and their families living with a life-long rare metabolic condition. Penny is also a therapist on UCL’s research trial of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for adults with Motor Neuron Disease.

In addition to her doctoral training, Penny completed a Master’s degree in Child Development, a PhD in Psychology examining cognitive processes in child ADHD and specialist postgraduate training in Paediatric Clinical Neuropsychology. She is trained in the use and interpretation of autism assessment tools and a wide range of cognitive and neuropsychological assessments. Her training has included Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for children and young people and adults with long-term life-limiting conditions, and she draws on a number of therapeutic models and techniques including behavioural therapy, mindfulness and compassionate mind training.
