How we work with and support clinicians
To ensure clinicians who operate their private practice at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) are able to provide the best possible service to patients, within the International and Private Care (I&PC) division at GOSH we offer the following services to them:
Higher value services:
We charge all clinicians the same fees in relation to operating their private practice. Should the clinician wish to access these services through GOSH, the fees are as follows:
- Consulting room charges: £28.60 per new patient appointment; £18.20 per follow-up patient appointment
- Secretarial service charges: £27.50 per hour
- Collection fees: 2% of clinician fee if paid on collection; 4% of clinician fee if paid in advance of collection
Low value services:
We do not charge clinicians for low value services. We do offer general facilities such as access to:
- Outpatient reception assistance
- Inpatient administration assistance
- Regular workplace amenities (e.g. tea and coffee, basic stationary, etc.)
- Marketing activities *
* Our marketing activity will often feature information about clinicians as they are a key part of the GOSH service offering, however, the objective of this activity is to promote and raise awareness of the private patient service at GOSH and not the clinician as an individual practitioner. Examples of such activities includes, but is not limited to, inclusion on GOSH website, social media, other electronic communication in addition to traditional printed material; speciality guides and profiles; newsletters; CPD events; etc.
GOSH may host CPD events for which both clinicians who operate their private practice at GOSH and those that do not. There is no cost charged for attendance.
We may also invite clinicians to speak on behalf of GOSH at international conferences and other such events to promote GOSH services and innovation. The cost of such events are either funded through the third-party host or through GOSH marketing activities.
As an NHS hospital, no clinicians practicing at GOSH have a share or financial interest in the hospital, the facilities or the equipment used.
Payments to referring clinicians holding a part-time position in a private hospital:
All clinicians who treat patients privately at GOSH are self-employed for this purpose and are not part-time employees.
Within I&PC at GOSH there are three clinicians who receive payments from GOSH who have, as part of their NHS contract, a responsibility to support private patient activity. These clinicians are:
