International Fellowship Program

The International Fellowship Program welcomes doctors who wish to further train in preparation for obtaining a consultant staff position in their home country.

The Fellowship Program will provide a unique experience for the individual doctor and can be partly tailored to their needs. The program offers hands on experience of patient cases with world leading paediatric experts. With unrivalled access to medical education alongside opportunities within research and academia through GOSH's partners, the program offers doctors a rare chance to gain career defining skills in their chosen area of paediatric medicine.

A Fellowship will be for a minimum of one year, and a maximum of two years. The Fellow will be embedded in their chosen department and will be assigned a dedicated consultant mentor who will monitor and review their progress and guide them.

The Fellow will be a fully involved and active member of the clinical team and will see and manage patients under the guidance of the senior staff, attending multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds, clinics, operating theatres etc. They will have every opportunity to take advantage of our range of formal teaching, lectures, Grand Rounds, and online training modules.

Fellows will be welcome to become involved in research projects if they so wish (in line with senior UK trainees) and will broadly follow the UK higher curriculum of training for their chosen specialty.

GOSH is uniquely placed in the UK as we are both an official General Medical Council (GMC) Sponsor allowing us to support entry on to the UK Medical Register, and also an official UK government Visa Sponsor (for the necessary Tier 2 visa).
This dual Sponsorship status allows us to streamline the process for International Fellows to enter and work in the UK.

Entry requirements for the International Fellowship Programme

• A medical degree that is acceptable to the UK General Medical Council (GMC)
• Have four years or more of specialty training at the time of entry
• Have a postgraduate qualification in their chosen specialty (such as Membership or Fellowship of a United Kingdom Royal College, or an equivalent relevant postgraduate qualification from their home country)
• Be in full time clinical work for the year directly prior to their Fellowship start date
• Have already obtained the IELTS English Language Test (IELTS Academic) with a score of 7.5 or above*
• Alternatively, candidates may apply if they are already registered with the GMC and have, or will have, completed at least four years of speciality training

Interested applicants will need to be financially supported by their home country organisation and will have to meet our entry requirements before being accepted on to the program.

*Any applicants that have not reached the required 7.5 IELTS score may be eligible for an intense training course through GOSH to help them reach the required 7.5 score.

Please be aware that you need an Academic IELTS for UKVI with a score of at least 7.5 for the General Medical Council and for UK Visa’s and Immigration purposes this must be taken at a centre accredited and recognised by the British Council.
