International Fellowship Program

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) in London will be offering new International Fellowships from Autumn 2017 to candidates from across the world in an unparalleled range of paediatric specialties.

Our Fellowships are aimed at international postgraduate medical trainees who are already well advanced in their specialty training and are looking to gain sub-specialist expertise at a world-renowned centre of excellence.

Interested applicants will need to be financially supported by their home country organisation and will have to meet our entry requirements before being accepted on to the program.

The International Fellowship Program welcomes doctors who wish to further train in preparation for obtaining a consultant staff position in their home country.

The Fellowship Program will provide a unique experience for the individual doctor and can be partly tailored to their needs. The program offers hands on experience of patient cases with world leading paediatric experts. With unrivalled access to medical education alongside opportunities within research and academia through GOSH's partners, the program offers doctors a rare chance to gain career defining skills in their chosen area of paediatric medicine.

A Fellowship will be for a minimum of one year, and a maximum of two years. The Fellow will be embedded in their chosen department and will be assigned a dedicated consultant mentor who will monitor and review their progress and guide them.

The Fellow will be a fully involved and active member of the clinical team and will see and manage patients under the guidance of the senior staff, attending multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds, clinics, operating theatres etc. They will have every opportunity to take advantage of our range of formal teaching, lectures, Grand Rounds, and online training modules.

Fellows will be welcome to become involved in research projects if they so wish (in line with senior UK trainees) and will broadly follow the UK higher curriculum of training for their chosen specialty.

GOSH is an international centre of excellence in paediatric care. It is dedicated to helping children from around the world to fulfil their potential and is globally recognised as one of the few world-class hospitals for children with multiple, rare or complex conditions.
With over 60 different clinical specialties and sub-specialties, GOSH has the UK’s widest range of specialist health services for children, on one site. The hospital has over 300 world-class consultants who form experienced multidisciplinary teams that work together to provide the best care possible for children experiencing a complex range of conditions.
GOSH has 19 specialised national services, and is the largest paediatric centre in the UK for children's heart problems, brain surgery, renal transplantation, intensive care, craniofacial reconstruction and gene therapy. In partnership with the University College Hospital we form the largest centre in Europe for children with cancer.

Together with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, we form Europe's largest academic centre for research and education in children's health and disease. We train more paediatric specialist doctors than any other centre in Europe and have Europe’s largest nurse education programme.
GOSH’s location at the heart of London means that the hospital is uniquely placed to unite world-leading experts under one roof, facilitating unparalleled collaborations that will help to change the lives of seriously ill children not just at GOSH but across the world.
GOSH is uniquely placed in the UK as we are both an official General Medical Council (GMC) Sponsor allowing us to support entry on to the UK Medical Register, and also an official UK government Visa Sponsor (for the necessary Tier 2 visa).
This dual Sponsorship status allows us to streamline the process for International Fellows to enter and work in the UK.

The Fellowship Program will provide a unique experience for the individual doctor and can be partly tailored to their needs. The program offers hands on experience of patient cases with world leading paediatric experts. I have benefitted from many positive experiences on both a personal and professional level, but the single most important one has been working with the professionals at GOSH. They are experts in their field providing world-class medical care, extremely motivated, dedicated and continuously fighting to provide the best care for their patients. Moreover, working closely with, and learning from colleagues from all over the world, from different cultures and backgrounds is uniquely enriching. The rare pathologies and novel diagnostic/therapeutic strategies that one encounters at GOSH, make it an exceptional, highly stimulating environment for a training physician.
