Happy Lunar New Year- Year of the Dragon 2024

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is China's most important festival and celebrates the beginning of a new year on the lunar calendar, representing the desire for new life (Spring is coming!). It is a great time to celebrate the past and look forward to the future.  

2024 is a year of the Dragon, starting from February 10th, 2022. The Dragon is a majestic and lucky creature in Chinese folklore, it symbolises bravery, health, creativity, and innovation. According to the Chinese horoscope, 2024 is a year full of potential and opportunities for personal growth, professional success, and social impact. 

 

 

Celebrating the past   

We bid farewell to the challenges and triumphs of 2023; we embrace the dawn of 2024 with gratitude. Look back on the past, we have shared countless memorable moments, witnessed the courage and resilience of our little angels (or warriors). We also have celebrated the research breakthroughs, full filling us with immense pride for our clinicians, researchers and colleagues. 

In 2023, we published a story of  Changing lives with laser surgery , which showcased how laser ablation improved the daily life quality of a child expired up to 50 seizures a day. Following the ongoing study of global spike of hepatitis in children, we published research on Adeno-associated viruses implicated in disease in world-first opening up new possibilities for genetic treatments. In June, we shared Baby Omar’s story  described a baby who was suffering from rare complications and experienced loss of control in his left eye, damage to his left vocal cord, and left lung paralysis triumphed over adversities under the meticulous care of the multidisciplinary team at GOSH. Subsequently, we published breakthrough research results, including How 3D ‘bio-printing’ can shape mini-organs; Unlocking the mystery of long-lasting cancer treatment and Clinical trial results give new hope for children with rare brain tumours  

Each step we take, paves the way for more hopes for our children. The story of Aditi - who has received life changing double transplant, his story attracted immense attentions in the public, we all delighted to witness miracle happened on her, she can now live like a normal child without for immunosuppressants post-transplant. During Christmas, we welcomed Zara’s revisit, she has been cancer-free for five years after treated at GOSH, rekindling the bells of victory over the cancer which added another layer of joy to the festive season. This year, we have more stories, our success has never stopped its steps. 

 

Year of the Dragon Wishes: 

In the year of the dragon, we are confident we will have more success and achievements. Every challenge we faced in 2023 has fuelled our progress, and every smile on child’s face has been a celebration of life. May 2024 bring everyone more laughter, more hope, and more happiness to everyone. At this special festival, we extend our sincerest thanks to all; our colleagues, families, partners, and supporters.  As we welcome the Wooden Dragon, we wish everyone a healthy and happy Lunar Year!
